CEDEC in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region has worked hard with Level 3 students from Noranda School and G. Théberge on Youth Entrepreneurship.
At Noranda School, the students started a healthy snacks canteen during morning and afternoon recess. The students wrote up a business plan and presented their project to the governing board in order to get seed money. Their request was granted and they started the purchasing process. Now operating since October 2010, their sales round off to an astonishing $100 to $140 per week for a population of approximately 45 students. As sustainability is part of the business process of youth entrepreneurship, the Level 3 students will be “selling” their business to next year’s Level 3 students.
At G. Théberge School in Temiscaming, the Level 3 students opted to create a promotional tool of their town. They created a DVD video presentation on of their community using pictures they took themselves with captions on how they perceive their town and how they love living there. Sales from the DVD are intended to help fund class activities. It is the students’ intent to promote the video within the tourism office and continue adding to the video each year or having the new students add their perception of the area.
Through CEDEC, the Chamber of Commerce of Temiscaming / Kipawa has become involved with this project and they intend to support the project’s sustainability as a promotional tool for the area.
