We are working diligently with local partners CAMI (Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders) and the Municipality of Grosse-Ile to implement various aspects of the Grosse-Ile Tourism Development Plan. Currently, the working group is addressing two of five phases of the plan. Eighty-four percent of the funding for Phase 1 has been secured, which will see the improvement and further development of CAMI’s two museums (Little Red School House and the Veterans’ Museum) and the Seacow Path rest site in September 2012.
Phase 2 of the plan will further develop several local tourism areas including Old Harry Beach, the Jacques Cartier Commemorative site and the Grosse-Ile North Service Area and walking trails. The partners are working hard to secure resources to implement Phase 2 and look forward to positive news very soon.
Furthermore, the Municipality of Grosse Ile is currently researching potential funding programs available with various government partners to develop its respective commitments within the Plan.
These very important developments will help the community of Grosse-Ile to position itself within the broader Magdalen Islands tourism industry and the growing cruise ship industry.
