Mature Workers Initiative

CEDEC’s Mature Workers Initiative, first created in 2009, has opened up dialogue with stakeholders across Quebec and Canada to help mature workers integrate successfully into the today’s competitive labour market.

Mature Workers play an integral role in the workforce, one that will only grow as Québec’s population ages. Statistics Canada projects that by 2036, over half of the population of Quebec will be at least 45 years of age.

Our workforce is set to shift dramatically as baby boomers reach retirement age. Mature workers have an integral role in the workforce and employers must prepare for the on-coming demographic shift in the workforce.

Our key objectives:

  • Increase awareness among businesses and recruitment agencies about the benefits of hiring mature workers.
  • Increase awareness and access to employability-related services and resources.
  • Ensure that employment service providers, program developers and policy makers have a better understanding of the needs and challenges of English-speaking mature workers in Quebec.

“Mature workers bring a lot of benefits …they bring a wealth of experience that is really invaluable to the company. The more diverse our work force the better outcome we have as a company; it’s directly tied to the bottom line. So it’s not just the right thing to do, it’s smart business."
