Côte-Nord – Labrador Interprovincial Tourism Venture setting baseline to measure economic benefits

The Côte-Nord – Labrador Interprovincial Tourism Venture is tapping into the expertise of the Community Economic Development and Employability Corporation (CEDEC) to establish a baseline for measuring potential future economic benefits.

“A critical driver of Collaborative Economic Development is keeping a laser focus on producing economic impacts,” said Franck Atsiga, Senior Economist at CEDEC. “We are conducting a survey of Côte-Nord and Labrador tourism operators,” he explained, “to establish a baseline to measure potential future economic benefits, such as increased number of tourists, their length of stay and spending. This baseline will also help to track seasonal hires.”

“What started on the Lower North Shore in 2021 has grown into a collaborative interprovincial tourism Venture along the Québec-Labrador Highway,” said Cornella Maurice, Executive Director of the Coasters Association. “It’s exciting to have an eye on how local businesses and seasonal employment are growing with help from the Venture,” she added.

“Our Venture introduced an original interprovincial effort that leverages our complementary histories, languages, cultures, and geographies, providing a unique tourism experience for travel around Eastern Canada,” said Randy Letto, Executive Director of Destination Labrador, and co-lead of the Venture.

“We are encouraging all our partners and collaborators who received the survey to take the time to fill it out. The results will enable us to better support the tourism service operators and improve the service offer for visitors to our amazing region,” said Joannie Francoeur-Côté, Executive Director of Tourisme Côte-Nord, and the other co-lead of the Venture.

For more information on the survey, which will run until October 1, 2024, please contact Fernanda Romero at coordinator@destinationlabrador.com.

The Côte-Nord – Labrador Interprovincial Tourism Venture was created to increase tourism traffic, spending and stays in communities along the Expedition 51° route of the Québec-Labrador Highway.

The Public, Private and Civil Society Partners CEDEC is guiding in this Collaborative Economic Development Venture include Tourisme Côte-Nord, Destination Labrador, MRC du Golfe-du-Saint-Laurent, MRC de Caniapiscau, the Blanc-Sablon Tourism Centre, Coasters Association, Whiteley Museum, Eskimo Island Boat Tours, and Labrador Straits Historical Corporation, along with the essential collaboration of the Visitor Information Centers (VICs) on the Lower North Shore, in Baie-Comeau, and across Labrador.
